Sterilisation - Answers
Will I have stitches and if so, when do they need to come out?
You will have sutures but they dissolve over time so there is no need to return to the Clinic.
Will there be any pain?
You will have some referral pain in your back and/or shoulders. This is due to a build-up of gas during the operation. Some peppermint in hot water or gaviscon will help ease the discomfort.
Is the sterilisation 100% safe?
Nothing is 100% safe but conception is extremely rare.
When can I have intercourse?
We advise that you wait 4-6 weeks before you resume intercourse.
Can I have a bath/shower?
Although you may feel like it, it is not advisable to soak in the bath; a shower is best and do cover the wound with cling film so as not to get it wet.
When can I take the dressing off?
After 2-3 days, you will be given extra dressings to apply at your discharge.
