Vasectomy - AnswersHow long does the operation take? Usually between 12-15 minutes. With registration, counselling and a short rest following you operation we hope you visit will be no longer than two hours. What is the recover period and how long will I need off work? The recovery period is different for each patient. If you follow the guidelines (you’ll be given a copy when you are discharged), and you have an office based job, you should be fit enough to return to work after the weekend. Patients who have a very physical job, or one which involves heavy lifting etc, are advised to take a week off before returning to work. When can I start running / going to the gym / general exercise? Gentle exercise is good and you can continue this over the weekend if you feel up to it. For more physical sports it is best to take a week off and then start slowly, gradually working up to your normal level. Your best guide is to listen to your body. How soon can I resume intercourse? You probably won’t even think about it for a day or two, but you can start again as soon as you feel comfortable. |
