- Wolverhampton PAS now offers a free walk-in chlamydia screening and testing service for the under 25s. For further information go to Wolverhampton PAS page
- The Health Protection Agency has published its report "Testing Times - HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Infections in the United Kingdom: 2007"
Key findings include:
- Genital chlamydial infection remained the most commonly diagnosed bacterial STI in UK genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinics in 2006, comprising 30% of all new STI diagnoses in this setting
- Young adults are disproportionately affected by STIs, accounting for 65% of all chlamydia, 55% of all genital warts and 48% of gonorrhoea diagnoses in genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinics across the UK in 2006.
- Three-quarters of the genital chlamydia infections diagnosed in women wherein the under 25 age group, and there was a 16% rise in diagnoses of herpes among teenage women between 2005 and 2006.
- One in ten of the young adults screened for chlamydia outside of the GUM clinic setting were infected.
- In the fourth year of the English National Chlamydia Screening Programme (NCSP) (April 2006 – March 2007), one in ten of the 14,939 young adults screened outside of the GUM clinic setting was infected with chlamydia.
