Catching STIs

How do you catch a Sexually Transmitted Infection?

You can catch an STI through any of the following sexual activities:

• Unprotected sex
• Unprotected oral sex
• Unprotected anal sex
• Genital contact
• Sharing sex toys

The bacteria and viruses that cause STIs are found in vaginal fluid, semen (cum) and can also be carried in the blood.

STIs pass between person to person, so if you’ve had unprotected sex or your partner has had unprotected sex then it is important that you both get tested.

FACT

Unprotected sex of any kind increases your chances of catching a Sexually Transmitted Infection.
Whether you’ve had 1 or 2 sexual partners or 50 sexual partners, if you weren’t protected you may not be clear.
