Irish, Northern Ireland and overseas clients

Abortion, although legal in England, Wales and Scotland, is currently unlawful in Northern Ireland, Ireland and other countries in Europe and the world. This means that women living in these countries who find themselves with an unplanned and unwanted pregnancy must travel to a country where abortion is legal. It is not against the law to travel abroad for an abortion.

Some countries may legally allow women to have an abortion but treatment may not be widely available, or may only be available up to a few weeks of pregnancy such as the Isle of Man and Jersey. Once again, for these women it may be necessary for them to travel to England to receive an abortion.

The Calthorpe Clinic is very experienced in helping women from Northern Ireland, Ireland and other countries travel to the clinic for abortion treatment. We can offer help and advice about local Birmingham hotels and airlines that fly to Birmingham International Airportwhen, we even provide you with a free taxi transfer to and from the clinic when travelling to the Calthorpe Clinic for your abortion.

If you are calling from outside England and wish to speak to a clinic advisor please call

Things to remember:

  • Your passport
  • Any medications that you are currently taking
  • Bring someone with you for support. If you are under 18 years old we recommend that you bring a parent or a responsible adult with you
If you decide to have an Early Medical Abortion we strongly recommend that you do not fly until the day after your second treatment. This is due to the high risk of your abortion happening whilst you are travelling.
