Contraception
Contraception, or sometimes called ‘birth control’, provides you with a choice as to if or when you want to start a family. At the Calthorpe Clinic we are able to offer all our clients contraception advice as well as prescribing a suitable contraceptive.
Your fertility is not usually affected by an abortion, and if you do not have an effective method of contraception in place following your abortion you may risk becoming pregnant as soon as you have sex. Our nurses will discuss contraception with you during your consultation; this is an ideal time to choose and receive contraception.
There are 15 different forms of contraception to choose from and fall into 3 different categories.
• Long Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) including the implant and the coil
• Short term contraception such as the Pill and condoms
• Permanent contraception such as sterilisation and vasectomy
It is very important that you discuss your needs with a doctor or a nurse to discover which form of contraception would be most suitable to you and your lifestyle. Not all methods of contraception suit everybody. If you try one form of contraception and decide after a while that it does not suit you please return to your doctor or nurse and talk to them; they will help you decide on a different contraceptive method.
